This book offers an illustrated introduction to the key elements of animation and is an ideal core text for all animation students and people who wants to learn basics and more in depth history of animation rather than practical skills. It discusses the key principles and processes involved in animation, exploring the entirety of the creative process from finding and researching a concept, through the preparation and techniques used, to the execution of the work. Each stage is presented in an engaging visual style, accompanied by examples and analysis of contemporary student and commercial animation. The book also discusses the links between animation and the styles and narratives of other areas of popular culture, aligning theory and ideas to practical advice.

This book describes a variety of definitions and philosophies of illustration, together with a relevant historical overview. The book is really well designed, clearly laid out and organised and full of information, easy-to-read text and great examples. It is very comprehensive in its outlook and covers all of the aspects with a strong emphasis on the social and cultural aspects.
The Creative Mind: Margaret A. Boden
This is a book which explores creativity by looking at what artificial intelligence tells us about the nature of thought. The book also offers some fascinating insights into how creativity develops. The writer makes a point that science does not predict but explains nor does it focus on the unique, nor even the precise, but on laws. She talks about the random, the chance, the chaotic, but essentially what creativity requires is a prepared mind, and an almost ruthless devotion.
